Perhaps I should have titled my book about my Grandma Maja differently. For now read, My Maja A Grandson’s Tribute on Amazon beginning August 1, 2020.
At the two thirds point of compiling the research and writing a tribute book about my Grandma Maja, the project came crashing to an abrupt halt.
I received an email containing two news clipping highlighting a telltale incident involving my grandmother occurring in 1949. The genealogy research and manuscript that had taken some 14 years to write was almost thrown in a fire in disgust.
The exceptionally close and wonderful relationship held between grandmother and me over 21 years of our lives together unraveled. She was gone and I felt alone standing vulnerable alongside three skeletons exposed from Maja’s closet. Somebody had some explaining to do. Perhaps it best to discontinue my writing and choose to keep my discoveries to myself?
The emails that appeared before my eyes revealed that Grandma Maja was exposed for intentionally hiding the first of what would eventually unearth three family secrets tucked out of sight in her closet. But why?
In this blog I choose not to show the news clipping or share a complete explanation of the story behind Grandma Maja hiding these secrets. I refer you to my book.
Originally, my compelling reason for compiling a book about Maja’s fascinating life as a widow and single mother who successfully struggled against the hard times of raising a family alone during the tough hard times of America’s Great Depression was to honor her grit and gumption as a warrior feisty survivor deserving of recognition and acclaim.
After digging into the story revealed by the newspaper clippings from the Chicago Tribune and a Houston Texas daily paper my tribute to Maja was transformed dramatically.
Some hidden valor of note that came from gut wrenching very personal emotional and psychological traumatic crisis suggested a much deeper story about Maja needed to be revealed.

This is all so interesting!
