Grandma Maja demonstrated the best example of grit and gumption of any person I have known. I have been searching all my life how to best explain the essence of her unusual spirit of moving forward through adversity.
I have discovered a Swedish word that helps me explain her resilience: Fram-at-anda. Framatanda , Is a complex Swedish word composed of three parts:
Fram–at–tanda
Food for thought: I wonder if : The notion of the rather obscure Swedish word: fram-at-anda is helpful in explaining or describing the essence which can, at will, be called upon to apply internal gritty resilience inspiration to resolve troublesome adversity challenges? Much is packed into a concept:
Fram at anda —Gritty gumption and resilient character of the heart:
I perceive that fram-at-anda—Was brought forward as Grandma Maja journeyed through life. She used fram-at-anda as she grew and developed. Her dependence in using fram-at-anda came forward expressed through decisions and actions reflecting her persistent and determined character, culture and upbringing. Resilience is a rare combination of brains and brawn mixed with stubborn adapting, creative flexibility and resourcefulness. Fram-at-anda is deep and soulful, a spirit of inspired knowing one must move forwards.
Framatanda is a second wind arising after experiencing being knock down.
Framatanda can be an itch to strive beyond the status quo.
Framatanda can pursue a trajectory beyond one’s perceived limits and can be used to prove something, or prove oneself.
Framatanda is sometimes autonomic like breathing or a heartbeat that keeps pace like keeping up while climbing up a steep incline.
I noticed My Grandma Maja as she demonstrated Framatanda:
+ Leaving Sweden for adventure (fram)-Forward
+ Pursuing. Swedish American Dream Family Life (at) Towards, to, a destiny.
+ Moving on as a grieving widow. (anda breathing inspired propelled via a spirited rising in resilience.
+ Transforming her new role as breadwinner mother, nurse, entrepreneur. (anda) Gritty spirit of conquest.
