My Swedish Grandma Maja was one of the strongest and toughest people I have ever met. It takes me a whole book to explain how very strong she was in proving herself as an immigrant. I built my own life celebrating the example of gritty resilience Maja demonstrated.
At the very same time, this strong and gritty Grandmother was soft and cuddly and nurturing. She was a large and imposing figure who loved spending time with me. I loved spending time with her. She became my mentor.

Maja’s valor: was stability- not strength of arms and legs, but of courage and depth of the soul that refuses to give up or give in.

What remains of Grandma Maja’s Swedish influences fills the pages of my book. This tribute to another Swedish family’s household portrays the ideals that are claimed as essentials.
These are not my ideals, but they closely convey Swedish American Household pillars I can very much identify with.

Grandma taught me lessons that I didn’t want to fade completely away. These blogs are meant to have you meet “My Maja” and enjoy spending some time with us.
Naturally, you might want to read more than my brief excerpts and share Maja with others.
